“The Handmaid’s Tale” Renewed for Season 2 at Hulu

“The Handmaid’s Tale” has been renewed for a second season! Congratulations to Yvonne and the rest of the cast & crew!

Just one week after its debut, Hulu has renewed “The Handmaid’s Tale” for a second season, Variety has learned. Season 2 will premiere in 2018.

The renewal will be announced Wednesday at Hulu’s Upfront presentation.

According to Hulu, which did not release numbers, “The Handmaid’s Tale” has been watched by more Hulu viewers than any other series premiere on the platform, considering both original and acquired series.

Aside from viewership success, the show has received widespread critical acclaim, with Variety‘s awards editor Kristopher Tapley penning a recent column about the series titled, “Does Hulu Finally Have A Serious Emmy Contender?” Variety TV critic Sonia Saraiya called the drama “a worthy, heartbreaking adaptation of the text, anchored by strong performances and profound visual grammar” in her review.

Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, “The Handmaid’s Tale” follows the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Elisabeth Moss stars alongside Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Alexis Bledel, Madeline Brewer, Ann Down, O.T. Fagbenle, Max Minghella, and Samira Wiley.

“The response we’ve seen to ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ in just one week since its premiere has been absolutely incredible. It has been an honor to work with this talented team of cast and creators to develop a series that has struck such a chord with audiences across the country,” said Craig Erwich, Hulu’s SVP and head of content. “As we continue to expand our strong slate of original programming, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is exactly the type of gripping and thought-provoking storytelling we want to bring to viewers. We can’t wait to explore the world of Gilead and continue Margaret’s vision with another season on Hulu.”

“Handmaid’s Tale” is created, executive produced, and written by Bruce Miller. Warren Littlefield serves as executive producer and Atwood is a consulting producer on the series. MGM Television produces.

Yvonne Strahovski To Star In Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” Series

Yvonne has landed a starring role in Hulu’s upcoming series “The Handmaid’s Tale”. This sounds like a pretty interesting show and role for Yvonne. I can’t wait!

Yvonne Strahovski is set as a lead opposite Joseph Fiennes and Elisabeth Moss in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, the upcoming straight-to-series drama based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel.

Strahovski will play Serena Joy, wife of Commander Waterford (Fiennes) and the head of the household staff. As an influential public figure, she fought for traditional values and the establishment of Gilead.

The series tells the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

Strahovski next will be seen in Marc Forster’s All I See Is You, opposite Jason Clarke and Blake Lively. She is currently filming Screen Gems’ suspense thriller He’s Out There. She is repped in the U.S. by Paradigm and McKeon/Myones Entertainment and by Sue Barnett & Associates in Australia.

The Handmaid’s Tale comes to Hulu from MGM Television. The series is created, executive produced and written by Bruce Miller, with Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Ilene Chaiken serving as executive producers. Atwood is a consulting producer for the series. Reed Morano is set to direct the first three episodes.

The 10-episode series is scheduled to go into production in Toronto this fall, with premiere slated for 2017.
